Anne of Green Gables was the Winter Musical at the theater at 2100 Sherman Avenue, North Bend . This wonderful family classic tells the poignant and funny story of a freckle-faced, red-haired orphan named Anne Shirley, who arrives at the Bright River Railway Station, full of hope for a new life. Her destination is the home of brother and sister Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert in Avonlea.

When Anne arrives at Green Gables, she is devastated by the discovery that the elderly couple were expecting a boy from the orphanage. With her fiery temper, love of melodrama and romance, and penchant for misadventures, she brings laughter, love, and more than a little consternation to the Cuthberts' quiet lives. In return, Anne finds the happiness and the home she has longed for all of her life.

The musical Anne of Green Gables is based upon the novel Anne of Green Gables by L.M. MONTGOMERY. The story was written by DON HARRON with music by NORMAN CAMPBELL and lyrics by DON HARRON & NORMAN CAMPBELL, with additional lyrics by MAVOR MOORE & ELAINE CAMPBELL.

There are 20 songs and many dances, and all of the Bay Area singing for "Ice Cream" beginning in February. The Directors were Cindy Black and Don Williston , with Musical Direction by Steve Simpkins. Jefferson Moreau was the choreographer. Jan Kendall was the Piano Accompanist and vocal director/coach. Costumes were co-ordinated by Judy Jantzen, and Hair Stylings were designed by Theresa Erskine and done up by Conor Romas and Josie Reid. Jefferson Moreau supervised make-up and was Stage Manager, with Becca Ruley assisting. Jason Denton headed up the technical crew responsible for the set design, lighting and sound, assisted by Josie Reid, Sandra Smith, Cindy Black, Jeff Cragun, and Joel Owens.

The tale of Anne Shirley is spread over a four and one-half year period, so the Directors cast two groups for the children of Avonlea. Act I, which featured Anne about age 11 with Quinlyn Deming in the title role of Anne, while Brianna Walden played Anne at age 15 and a half. Anne’s best friend, Diana Barry, was played by Maddy Ober and Mindy Freeman and her academic rival, Gilbert Blythe, was played by Garrett Paulson and Dustin Dow. Josie Pye was portrayed by Stephanie Derby and Makena Romas.

Matthew Cuthbert was played by Alan Spjut, and Marilla Cuthbert, by Kerry Oxford. Other ladies of Avonlea included Kathleen Zappelli as Mrs. Rachel Lynde, Josie Reid as Mrs. Barry, Jeanne Woods as Mrs. Spencer, Joanne Gates as Lucilla, Luanne May as Mrs. Pye, Gail Reynolds as Mrs. MacPherson, and Teresa Anne Rigg portrayed Mrs. Blewitt. The men of Avonlea included Dr. Roger Sims, Bill Movius, Dan Keller and Bob Peil.

The Schoolmaster of Avonlea School was played by Byrell Justice and Kevin Goss, and the students’ favorite teacher, Miss Stacy, was played by Deana Spence. Megan Faber played Prissy Andrews. Other schoolgirls were played by Jasmine and Hannah Beaulieu, Caitlin Snuggerud, Jennifer Holbrook, Jordyn Spence, Adriana Conn, Caitlin Finch, and Mary Edmonston. Other schoolboys were played by Dylan Kidd, Jimmy Barton, Nathan Forderer, Neil Cox and Steve Fields.
