Saturday
night, December 11, Oregon Coast Lab Band will make its first ever
appearance at Little Theatre on the Bay. “Evolution”, one of the six
bands of Lab Band, will fill the Liberty
at 2100
Sherman Avenue in North
Bend with the exciting sounds
that have produced invitations to many regional festivals, beginning
with the Medford Jazz Jubilee every year since 1997.
“Evolution”
has also performed at the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee in California
each June since 2001 and at
the Sisters Jazz festival since 2003. In 2002, “Evolution” had the
honor of performing at the Glenn Miller Jazz Festival in Clarinda
, Iowa
and at the 2004 Sun Valley Jazz
Jubilee, also in Idaho .
From
the Lab Band website at www.labband.org
:
"We
strive to develop self-esteem and confidence through performance.
Lab Band encourages respect, moral character, and teamwork in a family
atmosphere.
Lab
Band is designed so that each young musician in the program has the
same opportunities to advance through the band levels at their own
pace or level of desire. They learn quickly that a band is a team
working toward a common goal of enjoyment of playing music for themselves
and their audience. The older students mentor the younger students,
putting into practice our motto, 'Passing It On'."
Greg
Young will host and direct the evening. When asked about a planned
program, Patti Young, co-founder of Lab Band with Greg, stated that
the evening will be “swing music which will include ‘Sing, Sing, Sing'
and ‘In The Mood'. From there, Greg is liable to play almost any Big
Band Sound, led by the desires of the audience.”
