The Little Theatre on the Bay announces that its spring
production, Of Mice and Men, will open March 31 and
run
until April 16th. Of Mice and Men is based upon the novel by John
Steinbeck, first published in 1937, which tells the tragic story of George
and Lennie, two displaced migrant farm workers in California during the
Great Depression. The principal characters are George, a shrewd and tough
farmhand, and Lennie, who is intellectually disabled but incredibly strong
and who loves to touch soft things. George and Lennie hope to save enough
money to buy a small farm of their own.
Prior to the opening of the play, Lennie was accused of rape by a woman
whose dress he felt in the town of Weed. A mob from the town vows to lynch
Lennie, which forces George and Lennie to leave and find work at a farm in
the Salinas Valley, which is the setting for the play.
The principle characters, George and Lenny, are played by Byrell Justice
and Jeff Cragun. Byrell is also the director, ably assisted by Jim
Thornton and Cassie Justice. The same tandem directed last season's
Biloxi Blues. Other characters are:
Candy - Bill Movius
Slim - Tim Novotny
Curley - Randy Hines
Carlson - Mike Campo
Whit - Josh Jennings
Curley's wife - Cheri Stuart
Crooks - Federico Gonzales
Boss - Joe Stoffel
Candy's dog - Sir Charles of Coos Bay
The set was designed by Byrell Justice and Jeff Cragun while it was
painted by Stephanie Gonzalez. Props have been donated by several persons,
including Colleen Flanagan, Joe Vos, John Hensley, and Charley Thornton.
Sir Charles is the dog of Leslie and Eli Gonzalez. The poster was set at a
hidden location on the property of Colleen Flanagan, while the TV
commercial was shot at the farm of Cecil and Nancy Nix. The commercials
were filmed and edited by Mike Smith of MJ's Video Creations with Jeff
Cragun doing the voice over.
Seating for Of Mice and Men is by General Admission. Advance
tickets may be purchased at the City of North Bend Visitors Information
Center, Highway 101 (near the Bridge) in North Bend or at the door one
hour before each performance. All seats are $10 with discounted tickets of
$8 for Seniors (62+) and Students (14-18) and of $6 Children 13 and under.
Because of its mature subject matter, Of Mice and Men may not be
suitable for children under 13.
LTOB will also sell advance tickets for both Of Mice and Men and
for the 25th season of Little Ole Opry at the Home Show at the Boys
and Girls Club April 7, 8, and 9. The Home Show will be the first public
offering of Opry tickets for 2006. The LTOB Box Office opens one
hour before each performance for sales of any tickets to that performance
only. During the hour before a performance, tickets for other LTOB
productions, including Opry, are not available for sale.
