The Little Theatre on the Bay announces its first
show of the 2006-07 season, The Outsiders , based on the S.E. Hinton
novel of the same name. The tension between two groups: The Greasers
and The Socials "Socs" puts Ponyboy Curtis and his best friend Johnny
Cade in a bad spot. One night at the movies, Ponyboy and Johnny fall
in love with "Cherry" Valance and Marcia. What Johnny and Ponyboy
don't know is that Cherry and Marcia are girls for the snobbish,
popular, and rich group, the Socs.
Michael Gonzalez, directing his first LTOB production, brings an
adaptation by Christopher Sergel which will run three weekends,
September 22 to October 8, 2006. Presented by special arrangement with
the Dramatic Publishing Company. Michael is a talented young director
who has directed several successful shows at other local theaters. He
intends to pursue theatrical studies at the University of Southern
California. Mike is ably assisted by Ken Erskine, a veteran of many
LTOB productions.
This stage adaptation deals with real people, seen through the eyes of
Ponyboy, a young "Greaser" caught up in territorial battles between
the have-it-made rich kids - the "Socs" - and his tough
underprivileged "Greaser" family and friends. Ponyboy is played by
Josh Jennings, recipient of LTOB's Best Actor award for his
performance in Biloxi Blues. Ponyboy's best friend, Johnny Cade is
portrayed by Dillon deDiego. Ponyboy's brothers, Darry and Sodapop are
played by Joe Vos and Jeremiah Ackerman. Others in the cast include
Nathan Oliver, Jesus Torres, Ryan McAlpin, Whitney Wilson, Nicole
Doherty, Natalie Taylor, Makena Romas, Bob Berry, Konner Romas, Kevin
Goss, Tommy Nixon, and Chris Welch. The Country Kids are
portrayed by Addison Alford and Kellen Freeman.
The technical crew includes Brandon Vos as Stage Manager, Alice
Carlson as Lighting Director, and Josie Reid leading a talented pool
of set painters. Gordon Freid returns to LTOB with his repertoire of
magic with stage makeup. Melissa Freeman is the choreographer; Cheri
Stuart, the costumer; and Aaron Erskine, the light operator. Joe
Stoffel will run the sound board with many sound effects produced by
Donovan Werts. The set was built by Michael Gonzalez, Ken Erskine,
Jeff Cragun, and Jason Denton while Jeff Cragun, Jim Thornton, and Jim
Fleury assisted with the lights. The Stage Crew includes Chris Welch,
Joe Vos and Tommy Nixon.
Seating will be General Admission. General Admission seating is "First
Come - First Served". The Box Office and Doors will open one hour
